Capitol Hill Brownstone

We transformed a late-19th-century brownstone on Capitol Hill from a developer-flipped space into a warm, historically resonant home by advocating for a full renovation rather than just decoration. To bring back its character, we reintroduced details like herringbone parquet floors, wainscoting, marble, and hand-painted wall panels. The standout feature—de Gournay cherry blossom wallpaper—adds a poetic elegance that anchors the design. We also incorporated custom pieces, including a walnut wine vitrine and a bespoke dining table, to balance beauty with functionality. Along the way, we helped the homeowners expand their appreciation for art and craftsmanship, building a collection that now includes works by Larry Poons, David Hockney, Robert Rauschenberg, Ellsworth Kelly, and Lee Krasner.

“'When we met Zoe, she opened our eyes to what the potential could be,' says the husband. 'It just made sense. We wanted something homey, not something stark.' And so began a lengthy collaboration, one in which no stone was left unturned." - Paola Singer, Architectural Digest (2023)

"The three-story property, which was built in the late 1800s, had been recently updated by a developer who erased most of its original details. Feldman reimagined the home’s traditional look, adding wainscotting to the walls and covering the floors in wire-brushed herringbone parquet." - Paola Singer, Architectural Digest (2023)
