We embraced boldness with restraint as we transformed a Washington, D.C. home into a whimsically layered yet harmonious sanctuary. We paired striped wallpaper in the dining room with a floral foyer and a chartreuse living area filled with animal prints—but balanced each vibrant element so it felt surprisingly unchaotic. Colored cabinetry gradients in the kitchen—from pale blue to Farrow & Ball's deeper de Nîmes—create a calming, blended effect, while in other rooms we employed high-shine Hollandlac paint and thoughtful textures to weave pattern and color without overwhelming the senses. The overall result is a bold maximalist statement that riffs of the client's love for British design but still feels beautifully composed.

“On paper, a large, square dining room clad in striped wallpaper sounds dizzying. In reality—or at least in this Washington, D.C., home designed by Zoë Feldman—the bold pattern is soothing.” - Lydia Geisel, Domino (2018)

"The home is a balance of quirky and traditional. In one corner you’ll find a vintage landscape tapestry; in another, a catchall for keys shaped like a human hand." - Lydia Geisel, Domino (2018)
